Virgo Gloriosa

"O Virgin of virgins, how shall this be? For neither before thee was any like thee, nor shall there be after. Daughters of Jerusalem, why marvel ye at me? The thing which ye behold is a divine mystery." - the antiphon 'O virgo virginum', which is used by the Premonstratensians (and in the medieval English tradition) as an additional O antiphon. This was sung on the 23rd of December, with O Sapientia (which begins the sequence) being sung a day earlier on the 16th. Detail from a window in the church of Santiago in Madrid.
