
St John, the Beloved Disciple, is depicted with the eagle, one of the symbols of the four Evangelists. He is piercing gaze seems to be willing the eagle to disclose the depths o theology which is a hallmark of his Gospel. From the east window, designed by Burne Jones and made by Morris & Co. of the pre-Raphaelite school, installed in the then-Unitarian chapel of Manchester College, Oxford.
